About Assynt Munros
Assynt is one of the most geologically remarkable landscapes in Europe. The two Munros here — Conival and Ben More Assynt — rise from a terrain of ancient Lewisian gneiss, Torridonian sandstone, and Cambrian quartzite, each layer visible in the rock as you climb. This is a sparsely populated corner of Sutherland where the mountains feel genuinely remote.
The walk from Inchnadamph to the summit of Ben More Assynt crosses terrain that changes character with every mile, from the green valley floor through a rocky glen to the quartzite-capped summit ridge. These are not the highest Munros in Scotland, but the sense of wildness and the quality of the geology make them unforgettable.
Highlights: The traverse from Conival to Ben More Assynt crosses a spectacular quartzite ridge. Inchnadamph is the traditional starting point.
