Best Munros for Autumn
Many Munroists rate autumn as the finest season on the Scottish hills: the midges are gone, the air is at its clearest, and the hillsides turn gold and rust. These 23 moderate Munros are ideal autumn objectives — proper mountain days that don’t need summer’s long daylight or scrambling conditions.
September often brings the most settled weather of the year. By late October, daylight shrinks fast and the first snows dust the high tops — carry a headtorch and check conditions before committing to longer rounds. Stag stalking season (September–late October) can affect some estates; stick to main paths or check access before you go.
