About Ullapool Munros
The mountains around Ullapool form a compact group of big, remote peaks in the north-west Highlands. Beinn Dearg is the highest, but the real prize is Seana Bhraigh — one of the remotest Munros in Scotland, requiring a long walk-in from any direction through genuinely empty country.
The character of these hills is subtly different from the dramatic sandstone peaks further west. The rock is mainly Moine schist, giving rounded but still impressive mountains with fine corries and high lochans. The approaches from Inverlael and Oykel Bridge pass through some of the emptiest landscapes in the Highlands, where deer outnumber people by a considerable margin.
Highlights: Seana Bhraigh is one of the most remote Munros in Scotland. Beinn Dearg's corrie holds snow well into summer.
