About Isle of Skye Munros
The Cuillin Ridge on Skye is the most challenging mountain terrain in Britain. These are not the highest Munros in Scotland, but they are unquestionably the hardest. The rock is gabbro — rough, dark, and superbly grippy — carved into a continuous ridge of pinnacles, towers, and narrow aretes that demands scrambling, route-finding, and in places, rock climbing.
The Inaccessible Pinnacle is the only Munro that requires a technical rock climb to reach its summit. Sgurr Alasdair, the highest peak on Skye, involves a steep scramble up the Great Stone Chute. Even the easier Cuillin Munros like Bruach na Frithe involve exposure and scrambling that would be graded as significant on any mainland peak. For experienced mountaineers, the full Cuillin traverse is the greatest single mountaineering challenge in Britain.
Highlights: The Inaccessible Pinnacle is the only Munro requiring rock climbing. The full Cuillin Ridge traverse is Britain's greatest mountaineering challenge.
