Munros Near Dundee
Dundee sits between two excellent Munro-bagging areas: the Angus Glens to the northwest and the Perthshire hills to the west. Glen Clova, starting barely 30 miles from the city via Kirriemuir, offers Driesh and Mayar — a superb paired walk on good tracks with excellent views across the Angus countryside.
The A90 north leads to Glen Shee ski centre, beyond which lie several Cairngorms Munros accessible for long summer days. To the west, the Perthshire peaks around Aberfeldy and Crieff — including Schiehallion and Ben Lawers — are reachable in under 90 minutes via the A9.
The Angus Glens are the most distinctive mountain landscape near Dundee: quieter than the popular western peaks, with good paths, broad summits, and a gentler character. They make excellent first Munros before venturing further into the Highlands, and the views across Angus to the sea are unlike anything in the western hills.
