Munros Near Fort William
Fort William is the outdoor capital of the Scottish Highlands, sitting at the foot of Ben Nevis — the highest mountain in the British Isles. No other town in Scotland offers such immediate access to so many Munros. You can be on a summit within an hour of leaving your accommodation.
The Fort William area alone contains over 20 Munros. The Mamores ridge stretches east from Glen Nevis, the Grey Corries offer a high-level traverse above Glen Spean, and the Aonachs provide serious mountain days. Glen Coe is just 30 minutes south on the A82, adding another dozen peaks including Bidean nam Bian and the Aonach Eagach.
Further afield but still within easy reach, Lochaber extends east to the remote Ben Alder group, while the peaks above Loch Arkaig to the west offer genuine wilderness walking. Fort William is where most serious Munro baggers base themselves for good reason.
