Munros Near Inverness
Inverness is the gateway to the northern Highlands, and no city in Scotland offers such immediate access to such variety of Munro terrain. To the south, the Cairngorms massif — Scotland's largest mountain plateau — is less than an hour's drive via the A9. To the west, the remote peaks of Glen Affric offer serious mountain days in wild country.
The A9 south from Inverness opens up the Drumochter hills and the Cairngorms, while the A82 along the Great Glen leads toward the Fort William area. Mam Sodhail and Carn Eige in Glen Affric — the two highest Munros north of the Great Glen — are under 90 minutes away. The peaks above Loch Ness and Strathfarrar are all reachable for a long day.
Inverness sits at the crossroads of the Highland road network, making it one of the best bases in Scotland for bagging across multiple regions. The Assynt and Ullapool peaks to the northwest require longer drives but remain feasible on long summer days.
